If you are working hard to market your products and services online, you are aware that is becoming increasingly harder to catch people’s attention. Once you capture this attention, you need to work hard to keep their attention. The average internet marketing visitor has about seven seconds at the maximum to have his attention “grabbed”, or he will be on to the next site. Getting quality visitors to your site takes effort or money or both. If you do not have some type of audio or video media on your site, you are going to have a difficult time keeping people on your site. I will covers some tips to get a multimedia presence on your site.
1. Start with a great top header — If you do not have a graphical header on the top of your page, you are at a distinct disadvantage from the beginning. The top left of the page is known as the “golden triangle”. This is where all visitor’s eyes are drawn when they come to a page. If they see white space or black letters on a plain white background, they immediately think “boring”. This will lead many a person to leave your site before they even take a look at what you have to offer. It is a must to have a high quality graphical header at the top of your pages.
2. Quality images are a must — If you do not have any pictures on your site, you are going to lose your visitors very quickly again. People don’t mind reading some text, but they want some nice pictures to go along with their reading. If you are going to put pictures on your site, I strongly suggest using a quality, “royalty free” source. It is well worth the small expense to get high quality images on your site. Top quality images indicates a high quality operation with great products. You want to portray this quality image at all times.
3. Good flowing copy is a type of media — You want to make sure your copy speaks to the readers. You want to make sure it flows correctly and tells a story if possible. You do not want tiny font and you do not want the text to go all the ways from left to right on your webpage. You want to enable your visitors to scan your copy, because that is what many of your visitors will be doing. Hard to read copy means rapid page abandonment. You do not want this to happen to your site.
4. Audio clips are great — You want to connect with your visitors any way you can. When you talk to them by the use of audio clips on your site, you start this connection process. Audio used to be for “technical people only” in the past. It is not that hard to get an audio clip on your site. You can find free software on Google if you are tight for funds. You can subscribe to a paid service as well. Most of the paid services make it very easy for you to call in your message on a phone and upload it to your site in minutes. Getting audio on your site is not as hard as you might think. It is well worth the effort.
5. Video is becoming a necessity — If you do not have any video on your site, you are falling behind the norms. It used to be that video clips on a site were unique and trendy. In today’s competitive marketplace, it is almost becoming essential for survival. People are tired and stressed out from life. They really do not want to do a lot of reading on your site. If you can do a “show” for them, you have a much greater chance of keeping them on your site long enough for them to take a look at what you are selling. If you have camera phobia, you can do screen capture videos which are very effective without you ever having to go in front of the camera.
6. A balanced approach is the best — If you want to make a lot of money in your online business, you need to have a multimedia approach to your message and your content. Do not go overboard in any of these areas. Provide a natural, well flowing presentation of your materials. Use audio and video to highlight your message. Always keep in mind what your visitors experience is when they get to your site. Treat them as you want to be treated, and you will do just fine.
